ZF Wind Power Celebrating India’s First Plant to Reach 50 GW Capacity

ZF Wind Power, a global leader in technology-driven manufacturing and a key player in the wind turbine gearbox industry, has announced a significant achievement in India with the production of 50 GW of gearbox capacity at its advanced manufacturing facility in Coimbatore. This milestone reinforces ZF’s dedication to India’s renewable energy sector and highlights its role as a critical partner in advancing sustainable energy solutions.

Expanding Capabilities to Meet Future Wind Market Demands

As the largest wind gearbox production facility outside of China, the Coimbatore plant’s 50 GW milestone underscores ZF’s early and ongoing commitment to the Indian wind market. In response to growing demand, ZF is investing in long-term strategic enhancements, including expanding its manufacturing capacity from 9 to 12 GW per year and installing a 13 MW test rig. These developments position ZF as a leader in the development and validation of wind technology, contributing significantly to India’s ambition to double its wind power capacity by 2030.

Commitment to Sustainable Growth and Local Production

ZF’s investment in the Coimbatore plant also reflects its commitment to sustainability and carbon neutrality by 2040. By focusing on local production and advanced logistics, the plant not only serves domestic needs but also caters to global markets under the “Make in India for India and the World” initiative. The facility, spread over 120,000 square meters, is a hub for both manufacturing and research and development, playing a vital role in addressing dynamic customer demands and promoting a greener future.

Leaders from ZF, including Prof. Dr. Peter Laier, Akash Passey, Felix Henseler, and Deepak Pohekar, have expressed their pride and commitment to this achievement, emphasizing the importance of quality, innovation, and sustainable practices in maintaining their leadership in the wind gearbox market. The strategic investments and expansions are set to enhance ZF’s capability to support the growth of renewable energy both in India and globally.
