Wistron has approved an initial US$ 20 million investment through its subsidiary, ICT Service Management Solutions (India), to establish a production line in Karnataka. This move marks a significant step in Wistron’s broader US$ 40 million plan to develop after-sales service capabilities and pave the way for a state-of-the-art laptop manufacturing facility in India.
According to regulatory filings, the investment will flow via SMS InfoComm (Singapore), another wholly-owned subsidiary of Wistron. The upcoming facility will handle warranty repairs, inventory management, and logistics, supporting the company’s laptop manufacturing operations. ICT Service Management Solutions will also play a vital role in sourcing components from domestic and global suppliers.
Strategic Partnerships and Local Expansion
In January, Wistron signed an MoU with the Karnataka government, committing ₹1,500 crore to establish a cutting-edge laptop manufacturing plant. Construction began in mid-2023, with production targeted to commence by January 2026. Over 50% of the output from this facility is expected to be exported, strengthening India’s position as a global electronics manufacturing hub.
Wistron has secured a 32-acre parcel in the Hi-Tech Defense & Aerospace Park near Bengaluru for ₹160 crore. This will house the new after-sales service production line adjacent to the laptop manufacturing facility. The investment aligns with India’s “Make in India” initiative and underscores Wistron’s commitment to fostering local employment and advancing the nation’s electronics ecosystem.
Continuing Innovation Amid Strategic Shifts
While Wistron exited the iPhone assembly business with the Tata Group acquiring its Karnataka plant for $131 million in October 2023, the company remains active in India. It operates through three subsidiaries: ICT Service Management Solutions for maintenance and import-export, Smartiply India for IoT solutions, and Wistron Automotive Electronics for automotive R&D and production.
Globally, Wistron is a leader in ICT product design and after-sales services, with expertise spanning cloud computing, IoT, AI, and smart devices. By expanding its operations in India, Wistron aims to bolster its position as a key technology supplier while driving innovation and operational excellence.
