Vivo India’s Largest Smartphone Plant and Massive Production Capacity
Chinese smartphone maker Vivo is set to inaugurate one of India’s largest smartphone plant in Greater Noida next month. The facility, sprawling over 170 acres, will have an impressive annual production capacity of 120 million devices, established with an investment exceeding Rs 3,000 crore.
Transition and Expansion: Micromax Acquires Old Facility
In a recent move, Vivo vacated its leased manufacturing plant, which had an annual production capacity of 40 million devices. This facility has now been taken over by Bhagwati Enterprises, the manufacturing division of domestic phone company Micromax Informatics. The new plant marks a significant expansion for Vivo, aiming to meet the growing demand in the Indian market.
Potential Collaborations: Dixon Technologies and Tata Group
Vivo is in preliminary talks with Noida-headquartered Dixon Technologies for a potential joint venture. Dixon is considering a deal similar to its existing arrangement with Hong Kong-based Transsion to handle Vivo’s manufacturing operations in India. Additionally, Vivo has been negotiating with Indian conglomerates such as the Tata Group and the Murugappa Group, although differences over valuation have stalled these discussions. An anonymous source suggests that Tata Group is looking to acquire a majority stake in Vivo’s Indian unit, with discussions reportedly in advanced stages.
This development comes as India increases its oversight of foreign companies operating within its borders, highlighting the strategic importance of local partnerships and investments in the rapidly growing Indian smartphone market.
