New Greenfield Facility to Drive Innovation in Electric and Hybrid Cars
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has been allotted 827 acres of land in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, to build a greenfield manufacturing plant focused on electric and hybrid vehicles. With an investment of Rs 21,000 crore, the facility is expected to commence production by January 2026, creating 26,000 direct and indirect jobs. This new plant will play a key role in advancing India’s electric vehicle market.
Partnership with Government Fuels Development of Industrial City
The allotment was part of a broader initiative by the Central and Maharashtra governments, which have developed a smart industrial city under the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) Maharashtra Industrial Township Limited (MITL). The Bidkin node within the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) is where TKM’s new plant will be located, marking a significant step towards attracting major investments in the region.
A Boost to the Automotive Industry with Annual Production Targets
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, following the agreement with TKM, stated that the plant is expected to produce 4 lakh electric and hybrid cars annually. With this ambitious project, Maharashtra is set to emerge as a major hub for electric vehicle production, which will transform the automotive industry and contribute significantly to the state’s economy.
