Magna Automotive Component Plant in Chakan

Magna, a global leader in automotive components, has inaugurated a new manufacturing plant in Chakan, Maharashtra, further strengthening its footprint in India. The 65,000 sq. ft. facility will focus on producing latches and mirrors for car manufacturers in western India and is expected to generate over 300 jobs within the next three years.

Strategic Growth Amid Rising Automotive Demand

The launch of this facility aligns with Magna’s ongoing expansion in India, where the company already operates 14 manufacturing and assembly plants, along with five engineering, product, and sales offices. Magna employs approximately 7,000 people across the country.

This move comes at a time when global automotive suppliers are strengthening their presence in India to meet increasing demand from automakers. According to the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA), the country’s auto component industry recorded a turnover of ₹5.6 trillion in FY23.

Chakan: A Key Automotive Hub

Chakan, located near Pune, is home to several major automakers, including Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, and Mahindra & Mahindra, making it a strategic choice for automotive suppliers like Magna.

Founded in 1957, the Canadian multinational employs over 170,000 people globally and specializes in designing, developing, and manufacturing advanced automotive systems, assemblies, and components for car manufacturers worldwide.

With this new facility, Magna reinforces its commitment to innovation, efficiency, and growth in one of the fastest-growing automotive markets in the world.
