Puducherry Facility to Manufacture AI Servers
Lenovo India has announced that its Puducherry plant will start manufacturing 50,000 AI GPU-based servers each year, aimed at serving both the domestic and international markets. This initiative will bolster the company’s capabilities in producing advanced hardware specifically designed for AI applications, with an emphasis on serving the Asia-Pacific region. Over 60% of the servers manufactured are intended for export, demonstrating Lenovo’s commitment to not only enhancing its product offerings but also its participation in global markets.
Expansion of R&D Capabilities in Bengaluru
In a significant expansion of its innovation footprint, Lenovo is setting up its fourth-largest global research and development (R&D) center in Bengaluru. This facility will be integral to the company’s development efforts across various stages of product life cycles, including system design, firmware, and software development, product assurance, security, and testing. The establishment of this center underscores Lenovo’s dedication to advancing technology innovation within India, aligning with the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.
Long-term Commitment to India’s Tech Sector
Shailendra Katyal, Managing Director of Lenovo India, emphasized the company’s long-standing commitment to the Indian market, noting that the production-linked incentive scheme has further spurred Lenovo’s manufacturing efforts in the country. The Puducherry facility, operational since 2005, is set to enhance its production lines to include cutting-edge enterprise AI and GPU servers. Lenovo’s ongoing investment in India is a testament to its strategy of developing and manufacturing high-end technology solutions in India for global distribution.
