Tata Electronics and PSMC Announce Joint Venture for India’s First Chip Factory.

Strategic Partnership in Gujarat

Tata Electronics has entered into a strategic partnership with Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) of Taiwan to establish India’s inaugural semiconductor manufacturing facility in Dholera, Gujarat. This groundbreaking initiative is set to bolster India’s standing in the global tech industry.

Innovative Technology and Job Creation

The upcoming facility will boast a monthly production capacity of up to 50,000 wafers, leveraging state-of-the-art automation technology, including data analytics and machine learning to enhance operational efficiencies. The project, valued at ₹91,000 crore ($11 billion), is projected to generate more than 20,000 direct and indirect skilled employment opportunities. This move aligns with Tata’s vision of significantly boosting job creation in the region, with potential future expansions leading to over 100,000 job opportunities.

Focus on High-Demand Chip Technologies

With a focus on essential technologies such as power management ICs, display drivers, microcontrollers, and high-performance computing chips, the facility will serve critical sectors like AI, automotive, computing, and wireless communications. This strategic focus is intended to meet the growing global demand for these technologies, thereby reinforcing India’s position in the semiconductor market.

N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, emphasized the venture’s potential impact, stating, “Our collaboration with PSMC will drive growth, foster innovation, and strengthen India’s role in the global semiconductor market.” Echoing this sentiment, PSMC Chairman Dr. Frank Huang highlighted the partnership’s significance in advancing India’s self-reliance in semiconductor manufacturing and strengthening ties with Taiwan.
