Havells New Electronic Manufacturing Centre Underway
The Indian government is moving forward with its plan to establish a new Electronic Manufacturing Centre (EMCC) in Sector 10 of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA). As part of the EMCC-2 scheme, the construction of this 200-acre cluster has commenced. Havells India, a leading manufacturer of electronic products such as fans, coolers, lights, and cables, will be allocated a substantial 50-acre plot within this new cluster. The company plans to invest approximately Rs 800 crore into its new manufacturing facility, which is projected to generate around 1,000 jobs.
Strategic Location and Future Development
Theda area has been chosen for this electronic manufacturing initiative. Previously, Theda allocated a 100-acre plot to a mobile phone company, but the project was not completed, leading to the return of the land. Now, under the EMCC-2 scheme, a 200-acre electronic manufacturing cluster is being developed in Sector 10.
Havells’ application to establish its plant within this cluster has been approved, with the first phase of the project expected to be operational by 2026. Officials from YEIDA anticipate receiving approval from the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology within the next 15-20 days.
Financial and Infrastructure Support
YEIDA CEO Arun Vir Singh mentioned that Havells will serve as the primary manufacturing unit and will form a special purpose vehicle (SPV) with at least five other companies to utilize the remaining 150 acres of land. Additionally, under the EMC 2.0 scheme, YEIDA will receive Rs 140 crore in financial aid from the central government to support infrastructure development and the establishment of a Common Facility Centre (CFC) with advanced research and testing laboratories. The EMC 2.0 initiative is designed to offer top-notch infrastructure and plug-and-play facilities to attract global electronics manufacturers and their supply chains to India.
