Major Expansion with a ₹1,000 Crore Investment
Gautam Solar has announced its ambitious plans to set up a state-of-the-art solar cell manufacturing plant with an initial production capacity of 2GW. This significant move will require an estimated investment of ₹1,000 crore (US$119 million), as the company looks to meet the growing demand for renewable energy in India. The facility will be constructed on a 60-acre site in Bhiwani, Haryana, though the company remains open to exploring alternative locations to optimize the project’s ecosystem.
Strengthening India’s Solar Supply Chain
With this new facility, Gautam Solar aims to vertically integrate its operations, building on its existing solar module manufacturing plant in Haridwar and the upcoming expansion of its module facility in Bhiwani. This strategic shift will enhance its ability to produce high-quality domestic content requirement (DCR) compliant solar cells, vital for government-backed projects. By increasing local production capacity, Gautam Solar positions itself as a competitive alternative to Chinese suppliers, bolstering India’s domestic solar manufacturing capabilities.
Empowering India’s Energy Transition
Gautam Mohanka, CEO of Gautam Solar, emphasized the company’s alignment with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s (MNRE) push for indigenous solar manufacturing. “Our upcoming 2GW solar cell plant reflects our commitment to supporting India’s energy transition with reliable, locally manufactured solar solutions. With over 27 years of industry experience, we are poised to strengthen our position and contribute to a sustainable future,” said Mohanka.
As part of a broader trend in the Indian solar industry, this announcement follows other major investments in the sector, reinforcing India’s push to increase domestic production while reducing reliance on imports.
