India’s ascent as a global electronics manufacturing hub continues as Foxconn, Apple’s leading supplier, sets its sights on Greater Noida for a massive new production facility. The Taiwanese giant is preparing to build its second-largest iPhone manufacturing plant on a sprawling 300-acre site near the Yamuna Expressway in Uttar Pradesh. This proposed factory is expected to outsize even the company’s upcoming Bengaluru facility.
Strategically located near the upcoming Jewar Airport and close to HCL’s existing footprint, the plant may also neighbor Foxconn’s planned 50-acre semiconductor assembly unit. Ongoing discussions with the Uttar Pradesh government aim to finalize the blueprint for this landmark project, which could include not just iPhones but a broader range of advanced electronic components.
India Gains Ground as Global Supply Chains Shift
Foxconn’s expansion in India reflects a broader trend of global supply chain realignment. As geopolitical tensions and rising tariffs impact manufacturing operations in China, companies like Apple are actively seeking to diversify production. India, with its growing infrastructure and skilled workforce, is emerging as a top destination for high-tech manufacturing.
By moving key operations to Uttar Pradesh, Foxconn is capitalizing on India’s cost advantages and policy support, further accelerating the country’s role in the global electronics value chain.
Doubling Output and Driving India’s Tech Ambitions
According to reports, Foxconn aims to ramp up iPhone production in India to 25–30 million units annually—more than double its current output. This expansion underlines the company’s confidence in India’s manufacturing capabilities and signals long-term investment in the region.
Chairman Young Liu has previously expressed Foxconn’s interest in extending operations into sectors such as electric vehicles, digital healthcare, clean energy, and IT solutions. The Greater Noida facility is likely to play a vital role in this broader strategic push.
This development also dovetails with India’s Semiconductor Mission, reinforcing national efforts to build a robust, self-reliant electronics ecosystem. As the initiative moves into its next phase, Foxconn’s investment could serve as a cornerstone of India’s ambitions to become a global tech manufacturing powerhouse.
