Enhancing Production Capabilities With New Plant Launch in Chamarajnagar
Birla Opus Paints, a branch of Grasim Industries Ltd., recently inaugurated its fourth manufacturing facility located in Chamarajnagar, Karnataka. This strategic move increases the company’s production capacity to an impressive 866 million litres per annum (MLPA), positioning Birla Opus as India’s second-largest decorative paints manufacturer by capacity. Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman of the Aditya Birla Group, highlighted at the inauguration that the new plant embodies the spirit of a dynamic and confident India. This development is a key part of Birla Opus’s ambitious goal to hit a revenue milestone of ₹10,000 crore within three years of full-scale operations.
Innovative Production and Sustainable Practices
The newly launched facility boasts a production capacity of 230 MLPA and will focus on creating a variety of paint products, including water-based paints, enamels, and wood finishes. The plant is equipped with cutting-edge technology for the in-house production of crucial raw materials. This ensures enhanced product features like stain resistance, crack-bridging capabilities, and unmatched gloss. Moreover, the facility is designed to operate on a zero-liquid discharge basis, incorporating numerous sustainability initiatives and sophisticated supply chain technologies to ensure efficient and precise operations.
Strategic Growth and Service Expansion
Birla Opus Paints is on a rapid expansion track, planning to set up six manufacturing plants across India, aiming for a total capacity of 1,332 MLPA with an investment of ₹10,000 crore. With plants already operational in Panipat, Ludhiana, Cheyyar, and now Chamarajnagar, and a fifth one in Mahad nearing completion of trial runs, the company is well on its way to achieving its targets. The Chamarajnagar plant will not only bolster logistics efficiency but also expand the product portfolio, introducing factory-made enamel shades and innovative wood finishes. Additionally, Birla Opus has begun a pilot of its franchise-led painting service, PaintCraft Partner, enhancing its range of direct painting services. The company continues to grow its presence, reaching over 4,300 towns and delivering high-quality, innovative paint solutions under its campaign, ‘Naye Zamane Ka Naya Paint.’
