Avaada Electro, the manufacturing division of Indian renewable energy giant Avaada, has successfully commissioned a 1.5GW module assembly plant in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. Built in just three and a half months, the facility will manufacture bifacial tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) modules, supporting India’s rapid expansion in solar energy production.
Designed for high efficiency, the plant will produce G12 (210mm) and M10 (182mm) cells, with annual production capacities of 1.5GW and 1.2GW, respectively. These modules will also feature advanced multi-busbar configurations ranging from 16 to 24 busbars, enhancing energy output and reliability.
Commitment to Innovation and Sustainability
Speaking on the launch, Vineet Mittal, Chairman of the Avaada Group, emphasized the company’s alignment with the Indian government’s Make In India initiative, which promotes defect-free and environmentally responsible manufacturing.
The Make In India initiative, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014, has significantly boosted foreign direct investment in manufacturing, with figures rising from USD 45.1 Billion in 2014-15 to USD 70.9 Billion in 2023-24. The solar industry has particularly benefitted, with recent expansions from Goldi Solar, Eco Solutions, and Tata Power, alongside Avaada’s latest milestone.
Expansion Plans: A 5GW “Superfactory” in Greater Noida
Building on this momentum, Avaada Electro has announced the construction of a 5GW module assembly plant in Greater Noida’s Ecotech-16 industrial district. This large-scale facility, also set to produce TOPCon-based modules, will further solidify Avaada’s manufacturing capabilities. The company had previously unveiled plans for a 5GW TOPCon cell plant in Uttar Pradesh last October.
This investment aligns with India’s push for self-reliance in solar manufacturing. With the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) set to enforce domestic sourcing requirements from June 2026, companies like Avaada are positioning themselves as key suppliers for government-backed solar projects.
With its latest advancements, Avaada is set to play a crucial role in shaping India’s renewable energy landscape, supporting both domestic demand and global clean energy transitions.
