Ashok Leyland has inaugurated a state-of-the-art bus manufacturing plant in Malavalli, near Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. Spanning 75 acres, this facility will produce both the company’s complete range of diesel buses and Switch Mobility electric buses. The plant has an annual capacity of 4,800 buses and houses advanced learning and service training centers under its Nalanda initiative. The company emphasizes sustainability, with the plant featuring rooftop solar installations, LED lighting, electric logistics vehicles, water conservation measures, and a zero-discharge system. This move is expected to significantly contribute to local employment and skill development.
Strengthening Andhra Pradesh’s Industrial Growth
Applauding the development, Minister Nara Lokesh welcomed Ashok Leyland’s presence in the state’s expanding industrial landscape. “This facility enhances Andhra Pradesh’s position as a rising manufacturing hub, driving employment generation, improving skills, and contributing to the state’s economic growth,” he stated.

Dheeraj G. Hinduja, Chairman of Ashok Leyland, shared his enthusiasm for the company’s growing footprint in Andhra Pradesh and highlighted its role in regional prosperity. Additionally, Shenu Agarwal, MD & CEO, noted that the facility will strengthen the brand’s leadership as India’s top bus manufacturer and among the top five globally. “Production has begun, and with a strong order book, we expect to run at full capacity from the outset. The plant’s high automation and advanced equipment reflect our dedication to producing world-class buses,” he said.
