Ambitious Solar Manufacturing Plans in Bihar
Bhubaneswar-based Group Surya has announced its latest venture: a solar module and cell-manufacturing plant in Sasaram, Bihar. With an estimated investment of ₹1,000 crores, the facility will have an impressive 1.2 GW capacity, marking a significant milestone for Bihar, which currently has no solar manufacturing infrastructure.
Reviving Sasaram with Green Energy
The planned facility in Sasaram, known for its historical significance as the home of Sher Shah Suri’s tomb, represents a new chapter in the region’s development. Historically agrarian and under-industrialized, the district is set to gain from this transformative project. Founder Kamlesh Kumar Singh, who hails from Sasaram, emphasized the personal and strategic importance of this location.
Group Surya has already signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Bihar to bring this vision to life. This plant not only aligns with the national goal of boosting renewable energy capacity but also promises to generate employment and spur industrial growth in one of India’s most underdeveloped states.
A Legacy of Diversification and Growth
Group Surya has a diversified portfolio spanning renewable energy, water solutions, green hydrogen, carbon capture, and fintech. The company manufactures a wide range of products, including solar panels, lithium batteries, FRP vessels, and PVC & HDPE pipes. With a turnover of ₹350 crores in FY23-24, the group is on track to reach ₹500 crores by FY24-25 and has set an ambitious target of ₹750 crores for FY25-26. Plans for an IPO are also on the horizon.
Pioneers in Solar and Clean Water EPC Projects
To date, Group Surya has completed ₹1,600 crores worth of EPC projects in solar and clean water sectors. It is also a developer of RESCO power plants with a capacity of 70 MW, expected to expand to 100 MW by the end of the financial year. This move underscores Group Surya’s commitment to advancing renewable energy while contributing to India’s infrastructure and economic development.
