New Production Hub to Support Localized Manufacturing for Indian Packaging Industry
Bobst, a global leader in packaging and converting equipment, has announced the expansion of its manufacturing footprint in India with a new state-of-the-art production facility in Pune. Located near its existing plant in Pirangut, the new facility spans over 14,000 square meters (1.4 lakh sq ft) and is set to become a key hub for Bobst’s localized manufacturing efforts, targeting the growing demand within India’s corrugated and flexible packaging sectors. This strategic move aims to reinforce Bobst’s market presence and better meet the specific needs of Indian customers.
Commitment to Innovation and Market Adaptation
The decision to open the new plant is part of Bobst’s broader strategy to localize production and strengthen its capabilities in key regional markets. Venugopal Menon, Bobst India’s Zone Business Director for Printing Converting, highlighted the importance of maintaining global quality standards while adapting to the unique demands of the Indian market. The plant will initially produce the Nova line of FFG (flexo folder-gluer) machines, with plans to introduce the Vision range by late 2026. This initiative aligns with Bobst’s commitment to making high-quality yet accessible packaging solutions available to Indian businesses of all scales, including small and emerging companies.
Expansion of Product Portfolio and Enhanced Local Production
In a move to diversify its offerings, Bobst has incorporated products from its recent acquisition of South Korean flexo printer slotter and flexo folder-gluer manufacturer CnS, now rebranded as Bobst Korea. The new Pune facility will integrate these products into Bobst’s portfolio, with local production of the Nova FFG line starting in 2025. Additionally, the Pune plant will manufacture Bobst’s Vision K-5 vacuum metalliser, with half of the facility dedicated to this advanced metallisation technology for producing metallized films. According to Cyril Ruiz-Moise, Regional Business Director for Asia-Pacific, this localized approach not only brings Bobst closer to its customers but also optimizes production costs while leveraging the expertise of local teams.
The Pune facility is expected to initially employ around 100 people, with ongoing R&D and process support provided by the original Pirangut plant. This expansion marks a significant milestone for Bobst as it strengthens its commitment to India’s rapidly evolving packaging industry and reinforces its position as a leading provider of innovative packaging solutions in the region.
