New Facility to Drive Clean Energy Solutions and Reduce Dependence on Fossil Fuels
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially inaugurated India’s first compressed biogas plant in Ranchi, Jharkhand. Developed by GAIL (India) Limited in collaboration with CEID Consultants and LSTK/EPC Contractor, the plant is set to bolster the country’s efforts toward cleaner, sustainable energy. With a daily capacity of 12,500 m³, the facility will process 150 tonnes of municipal solid waste, generating 5,000 kg of bio-CNG and 25 tons of bio manure. Situated on 7.86 acres at the Jhir Dumping Site Mouza Jhiri, the plant will supply biogas to nearby CNG stations, capable of fueling over 600 vehicles daily, supporting the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
Advanced Water Scrubbing Technology Paves the Way for Efficient Biogas Production
The plant employs cutting-edge water scrubbing technology to purify the biogas, ensuring an efficient, environmentally friendly process. CEID Consultants and Engineering managed the entire project lifecycle, from design and procurement to installation and commissioning. Ranchi’s municipal authority will supply wet waste from residential, commercial, and industrial sources. Construction began in March 2021, following a Concession Agreement between GAIL and the Ranchi Municipal Corporation.
