Ohmium Launches 2 GW PEM Electrolyser Gigafactory in Bengaluru, India

Ohmium Newest PEM Electrolyzer Gigafactory Facility to Drive Green Hydrogen Production

Ohmium International (Ohmium), a leader in green hydrogen solutions, has officially inaugurated its latest gigafactory in Doddaballapura, on the outskirts of Bengaluru, India. This state-of-the-art facility spans nearly 14,000 square meters and is designed to produce 2 gigawatts (GW) of fully assembled and tested Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyzer systems annually, catering to the growing demands of Ohmium’s global projects.

A Significant Milestone in Ohmium’s Expansion

“The opening of our new gigafactory is a pivotal moment for Ohmium, enabling us to deliver green hydrogen solutions to an expanding customer base in India and internationally,” stated Arne Ballantine, CEO of Ohmium. “With a capacity of 2GW, our electrolyzers can reduce four million tons of CO2 annually, equivalent to the CO2 absorption of 180 million trees. This is just the beginning for us.

This new facility is Ohmium’s second in India and the first to integrate manufacturing, assembly, quality assurance, testing, warehousing, and shipping under one roof, streamlining operations and enhancing efficiency.

Strategic Investments and Innovations for Sustainable Growth

Ohmium COO Ashwin Varma highlighted the company’s approach: “Our hyper-modular PEM electrolyzers are crafted for mass production and ease of assembly. By leveraging standardized, high-quality manufacturing practices, we can produce systems that deliver superior performance at competitive costs. This approach allows us to quickly scale production to meet increasing demand, with cost efficiencies growing alongside capacity.”

The gigafactory represents a substantial investment in local infrastructure, equipment, and workforce, reinforcing Ohmium’s leadership in the PEM electrolyzer sector in India. This includes notable achievements like the historic 400 megawatt (MW) agreement with NTPC in 2023, a strategic partnership with Tata Projects in 2024, and selection for the Ministry of Renewable Energy’s Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Incentives.

Ohmium’s collaboration with India’s CSIR-Central Electrochemical Research Institute (CSIR-CECRI) and IIT Madras Research Park (IITMRP) facilitates the swift translation of research innovations into production, supporting the burgeoning green hydrogen market in India and globally.
